Televideo & Distance Counseling

“Words of comfort, skillfully administered, are the oldest therapy known to man.”
– Louis Nizer –

For well over a decade there has been convincing evidence showing the many benefits of telehealth counseling. Still, until 2020 very few providers offered distance services. That was, of course, when the COVID pandemic changed the counseling landscape. Providers suddenly had to make the transition to online counseling. Fast forward 2 years and telehealth has surpassed traditional in-office services by a ratio of 2:1. In fact, many counselors have restructured their practices to telehealth-only. Traditional face-to-face counseling is becoming a thing of the past.

For some this has been a welcome change. Telehealth offers greater access to mental health support in a time of growing need, and in some cases costs for those services have gone down. In fact, many insurance companies incentivize telehealth by lowering annual deductibles. But others feel quite differently. They worry that telehealth is impersonal, less effective, and aren’t comfortable meeting with a therapist online.

Kachemak Counseling has been providing telehealth services since 2012. Resounding feedback from clients who were initially skeptical report the same benefit as in-office sessions along with appreciation for the convenience telehealth offers. Confidentiality is ensured by our secure, HIPAA compliant video-link software specifically designed for online counseling. However, for those who still prefer traditional in-office services, Kachemak Counseling will continue to offer face-to-face sessions.

We hear questions about whether telehealth will lose its popularity in time. Our answer to that is a definitive “no.” After working with so many existing clients who have switched over to telehealth, and starting with countless new clients who specifically request telehealth, we’re convinced it is here to stay.

Whether your preference is in-office, face-to-face or online telehealth sessions, we remain steadfast in our dedication to providing personal, effective, and confidential mental health services.
